Family Fun Day
On Saturday 16 April, West Waterford pony club held their 3 annual family fun day. The day was a great success, with laughter and enjoyment had by all. Many thanks to our fabulous hosts for the day Dick and Marie Hennessy, who provided us with a super venue and put up with us all for the day.
The craic began at 11 in the morning with the under 12 show jumping. This was an opportunity for many of our new members to practise their newly learned show-jumping skills, following lessons over the previous months.
The older members began their dressage tests at 11am also, completing their intermediate test; they were followed by the younger members completing their junior and U12 tests.
Thanks to Daphne Simms for judging our dog show which got underway before lunch. Over 20 dogs participated in a range of competitions including an agility competition, whose course was driving some members barking mad! Lunch proved to be a feast, with all members bringing something to share and by the time the jump cross got underway after lunch everyone was full of energy.
There were 20 competitors in the 75cm jump cross competition. This consisted of a round of show jumping followed by a cross country course, finishing with a final round of show jumping. Kobee F. came out on top, winning the 75cm jump cross.
The second last competition of the day was the single pole jumping. This was a competition to see who could jump the highest. This competition was won by Eimear O’ B., who jumped an incredible height of 1m 30cm.
Our final competition of the day was the 90cm jump cross. This featured many of our older members, but it was Tom B. who finished the day on top.
We would like to thank all our dressage judges, fence stewards, sponsors and everyone who helped out on the day, and made it a huge success.
