Robbie Bailey

This page is not intended as a full account of the Robbie Bailey competition but only as a rough introduction for interested newcomers.

Who is Robbie Bailey?

Robbie Bailey (deceased) originally gave the Robbie Bailey trophy for those children who are not so competitive, i.e. those that are not semi-professional show-jumpers. This is why so far if you win the Robbie Bailey competition you will not be allowed to participate in it again - to give a chance to other riders.

What is the Robbie Bailey competition?

The Robbie Bailey competition is a Junior show jumping team competition. There are 4 members on a Robbie Bailey team. They have to qualify for the Irish Pony Club Robbie Bailey finals at Stradbally, Co. Laois at their area qualifier. First and second placed teams at the area qualifiers usually qualify for the national finals.

Age Group

This is a Junior competition. This means the riders have to be under 14 years old on 1st January of the competition year. They also must be C-Test standard but not have their C+ Test. Ponies must be 5 years or over. The jumps have a maximum height of 90cm.

For exact height and age specifications please consult the Irish Pony Club Guide to Competition Ages.

For older riders see the John Ledingham competition.

If age and ability wise you could do both the Robbie Bailey and John Ledingham competitions you must choose one. You cannot do both in the same year!
