Summer camp is usually in the second week of July and is held over 5 days in Fortwilliam Estate, Glencairn, which is kindly lent to us by its owner Mr. Ian Agnew.
The 2008 camp took place from 7th-11th July.
The 2008 cost was €150 per child.
The closing date for camp applications is usually in mid June. You will be sent your application form in time. It is not possible to apply for camp before this.
In order to qualify for camp you must have participated in at least four paid rallies. For new members one of those rallies must be a tack cleaning one. Members who have done two of these in the previous years will be exempt from the tack cleaning but will still be expected to do four paid rallies. Attendance at the information night in February counts as one rally towards this!
Every parent is expected to help for at least one half day at camp, and also with setting up and taking down the stabling, show jumps and cross-country jumps before and after the camp.
We hope everyone had a wonderful week and end up with lots of knowledge regarding pony and riding skills. Camp was run from the 7th - 11th July inclusive, at Fort William Estate in Glencairn, (approx. 4 miles from Tallow, look out for signpost from the top of Tallow Hill, or if coming from Lismore direction, look out for signpost at Hornibrook’s garage). Fort William has been very kindly put at our disposal by Mr. Agnew, so we must ensure that we leave this beautiful old place exactly as we find it!
Camp cost €150 per member, and this amount must be paid in full in advance, i.e. with the booking form. Please make sure to meet one of the committee members on arrival. Arrival time is 6.30pm – 8pm on Sunday evening. It is essential to get your pony settled in and your various bits and pieces unloaded as quickly as possible in order to avoid chaos. Camp starts at 9am and each member must be ready to ride out at 9.30am daily and to be collected at 4.30pm daily. Members up to the age of eight may be collected at 3.00pm if required but parents: please let the group instructor know if this is the case.

The following are some points each member needs to be aware of:
- Mr. Sly, the farm manager, has specifically requested that nobody is to be anywhere near the silage pit – if anyone is found in this area, they will be immediately sent home.
- Conduct is to be at the highest level at all times and please show courtesy to each other, to instructors, parents, and committee members - no bad language, name-calling or similar.
- If you have any problems, be sure to talk to one of the committee members who will be at camp every day.
- Senior Riders please be helpful to younger members, lots of whom are new to camp.
- PARENTS, please make us aware of any health problems your child may have. Also if ponies have any vices or problems, e.g. crib biting, wind sucking, weaving, stable-walking, etc. it is essential that we know about it, as you will be asked to take your pony home at night time if this is the case.
- Nobody is to leave Fort William, without making sure that his or her stable is clean and the bedding removed on the last day of camp. Also, please check out with the DC.
- On Friday evening it is imperative that parents are available to take down stabling before they leave. Please consult with the DC.
- Prize giving presentation will take place on Friday afternoon, time to be decided, parents and family members may like to attend. If any of you could bring sandwiches or cakes for this occasion we would be truly delighted. Patricia Triggs McCarthy (087-2376118) will co-ordinate this.
